Amsterdam revealed

Tonko,Thane and Gillibrand | November 28, 2009

City of Amsterdam mayor Ann Thane is meeting with Congressman Paul Tonko and Senator Gillibrand today to talk about waterfront development. According to a news release from Gillibrand’s office, the meeting will be squeezed between a 1:30 with Fulton County and a 3:00 with Schenectady Mayor Stratton.

So let me get this straight right now. These 2 big elected officials are going to delve into waterfront development in a matter of 15 minutes?  Does that sound logical? If that is the case why not just make a conference call with each other? Unless you want the media to take pictures of you haha. Maybe its a rushed 15 minute meeting that got us millions of dollars for a bridge that we have to maintain. Maybe its a rushed meeting that led to the creation of a beautiful park 10 feet away from the train tracks with horns blowing constantly. It looks to me like a poorly set up meeting for no real reason at all other than media picture opportunities. My question is: Was there any real planning for the current bridge? The answer is obviously not because there just making designs now.

  1. Of course things can be accomplished in a short time. That is irrelevant to IF something will be done. I do think it’s wonderful that Kristen Gillibrand is coming to the area. The more known we become the better chance the future has. Teddy Roosevelt was hiking in the Adirondacks as VP when he became youngest Pres. because of assassinated Pres then. We have a land of history and beauty, that’s what we need to nurture. Amsterdam isn’t what it was, but what it can be is the question. And having value in what it consists of, cultural diversity is lovely!

    • Are you comparing a junior senator like Gillibrand to Theodore Roosevelt? Seriously? You give these losers way too much credit. I suppose you think that Tonko has the ability to “part the seas” of the Mohawk so they start construction on this ridiculous bridge too! Ask the NRA about Gillibrand, and ask small business owners about Tonko’s stance on health care reform.
It is obvious that Tonko, Gillibrand and Thane have forgotten that the people who put them in office can certainly remove them in upcoming elections!!!!

  2. You actually think Senator Gillibrand coming to our city for a brief 30 minutes is going to put us on the map and make us better known? I would love to hear what was actually done at this meeting. Did our mayor Ann Thane speak for 90 percent of taxpayers in Amsterdam to Congressman Tonko and tell him he wasted over 17 million dollars on a bridge? Did she tell him it was insulting to us? Taxes through the roof, potholes everywhere and state assistance to local governments being cut and they want to spend 20 MILLION on a pedestrian bridge that we have to pay for maintanence on. Priorities as so mixed up with these politicians. But then again, what else is new I guess.
